This article is about solar power. NextGen Solar claims that they have made a paint that doubles as a solar panel. The paint can be painted onto almost any surface. The paint is said to have 40% efficiency. I find this really cool because I believe that solar power is a resource that more people need to use.

There have been recent tests on the beef in America, saying that they may be tainted with arsenic, or copper. They feel that the food inspecting agencies are not testing the food enough to find out if there are harmful things in it. They feel that they are not putting high enough restrictions on what is allowed in the food, and what should not be allowed. This is an ongoing controversy, and I'm just glad to say that I don't have to worry about this because I already do not eat beef, and its not because of religious reasons its just because.

  4. http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/04/15/hospital.gay.visitation/index.html?hpt=T1

This article is about President Obama asking the Department of Health and Human Services to establish a rule preventing hospitals from denying visitation rights to gay and lesbian partners. In his memo on Thursday, he said "There are few moments in our lives that call for greater compassion and companionship than when a loved one is admitted to the hospital. ... Yet every day, all across America, patients are denied the kindnesses and caring of a loved one at their sides." He said that gay and lesbian couples are uniquely affected by relatives-only conditions and that they "are often barred from the bedsides of the partners with whom they may have spent decades of their lives -- unable to be there for the person they love, and unable to act as a legal surrogate if their partner is incapacitated." He said that this bill would also prevent hospitals from discriminating based on sexual orientation and gender identidy.

I chose this current event because I personally LOVE Obama's decision on this matter. It's an issue that is very close to my heart, I think it's very important and I'm really glad that he sees that all people should be treated equally no matter their sexual orientation. I also love that he included no discrimination based on gender identity, because that could be overlooked by many people.

  6. http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/04/15/midwest.fireball/index.html?hpt=T2

This article is about a massive fireball that was seen in some midwestern states by the authorities. They say that it was visible for about 15 minutes before it was out of eye sight. It was said that it was moving from east to west. People said that after 15 minutes it broke of into smaller pieces and made a very loud boom that shook houses. Nobody knows what caused the massive fire ball or where it came from yet. A large meteorite could have caused the brilliant fireball that was reported. They are hoping to find out what caused this huge fireball and how far it actually traveled. There is a video on CNN where you can see the huge fireball in the sky.

Many of us have heard of the volcanic ash cloud hanging over Europe. The volcano exploded in Icelan on the 21st of March. We are now seeing the effects of the eruption as the dust and smog pull eastward over the mainland of Europe. This has caused major delays for many European and international airlines. Planes are unable to land or take-off, leaving thousands stranded at airports across the continent.

On Wednesday night a gigantic fireball was seen completely flooding the night sky with light in the Midwestern states. The footage is ridiculous! The fireball literally lights up the night sky more than a lightning storm would. The authorities are not sure exactly what the fireball was yet, but there was an expected meteor shower to occur from April 4th to the 21st with climax activity on Wednesday and Thursday. I think that is probably what happened, but still the footage is absolutely mind boggling!

  10. I read the same article as Maureen. Basically, president Obama said that hospitals should not descriminate against gays and lesbians. They should allow them all the rights to visit their loved ones. I think this is a very important statement which needed to be stressed. There is nothing wrong with being Gay and they should not be descriminated against. http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/04/15/hospital.gay.visitation/index.html

In Des Moines, Iowa, Meatball won the 31st annual Beautiful Bulldog pageant. Meatball beat 49 other bulldogs and he official mascot for the 101st annual Drake Relays track and field event! As the winner, Meatball received a key to the city, a royal cape and crown. Meatball just wore blue Drake University shirt while many other bulldogs went all out in tuxedos. I think Meatball won because of his personality. Ryan Anderson, his co-owner, said "He's got a lot of character to him. He's got a lot of personality and he likes playing with everyone else." I believer Meatball deserved to win the 31st annual Beautiful Bulldog pageant.

  16. http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/04/21/hundred.dollar.bill/index.html

This article is about the US Treasury releasing a new 100 dollar bill. "The $100 note is the highest value denomination of U.S. currency in general circulation, and it circulates broadly around the world," according to a statement from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. The main reason that new money is being designed is to prevent people from counterfitting. New features are being added to prevent this, like a watermark and an embedded security thread.

A new report is calling on the FDA to put limits on amounts of salt in food served in restaurants or available in supermarkets because of the unhealthy amounts circulating. It's unhealthy because excess sodium can lead a plethora of diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and cutting salt in food is projected to prevent almost 100,000 deaths a year. Salt is currently considered a safe food, and thus there are no regulations on it.
