There was some type of explosion in a coal mine 25 minors died and 4 are missing. I am sure that there was some sort of warning that the mine was not safe. The people in charge should make mines safer so things like this doesnt happen. I feel sorry for the familys of the dead and missing people. There had to be someway to have prevented this. I hope the 4 miners are found and are okay.
This article is about the Space Station. A NASA space shuttle named Discovery arrived at the Space Station this morning. The docking of the shuttle was flawless but made more difficult by an antenna breakdown that made radar tracking impossible. Despite this, the crew landed the shuttle perfectly and on time. This was only the second time a shuttle has had to land without radar. I find this quite interesting because I love outer space.
This article is about two partial skeletons that were recently discovered in South Africa. The remains are nearly two million years old, and according to Dr. Lee Berger from the University of the Witwatersrand, finding these remains is like "stepping into a time machine". The article goes into great detail on the way that they walked, how upright they stood, and their possible brain sizes. In any case, these skeletons are a huge piece of history and will be very helpful in repairing our 'missing link'.
I read the same article that Maureen read. Scientists have discovered a new link in the chain of our ancestors. The remains were found in South Africa and are nearly 2 million years old. Australopithecus sediba is the official scientific name for the species. With this new discovery scientists may have a glimps into our past that they have never been able to have before. Scientists believe the species is taller and stronger than its close relative Lucy. Lucy was discoved in 1974 and opened up a window that had never been viewed through before by any scientist. The Australopithecus sediba is translated as Southern ape. It shared many physical features with the Hominids and walked upright. I think this whole discovery is really cool because I already know a lot about our ancestors. My brother is really into that kind of thing and has a bunch of movies on it. He has one that shows sculls of the human evolution and it draws out a family tree with them. There was a whole in the tree where scientists knew there was a missing link. Now it's been found!
I read an article on a UPS truck collide. A UPA truck collided into a Merita break truck. This happened on I-40 near exit 268. ON wednesday April 7th.ABC 11 News tells us that two cars were involved in the crash just west of orange county. Right after the crash the UPS truck went up into flames.
Honda is coming out with a new seat / unicycle / bar-stool that moves with you. You can charge it up, and your good for about an hour. It can go sideways, and back and forth, and it has wheels that sense where you want to go. Just lean a little left and it'll go left; and every other way that you may need it to. They have not yet released a release date or a price. They say that it moves the speed that an average person walks so that they can keep up with other people.
This article is about a team of researchers in South Africa who have unearthed 2 million year old remains of an unknown species. They found an adult male as well as an adult female. Researchers think that the find will open a new window into human evolution. The skeletons were found in a colapsed cave along with others that have not been dug out yet. They think the male was from the ages of 10-13 when he died, and the female in her early 20's. I find it extremely interesting how much information the researches think they will get out of the skeletons. Hopefully it really does open up a whole new view of evolution.
I found an artical on a newly found fossil found near the city of Johannesburg, South Africa. The fossil is 1.9 million years old and said to be of a 11 to 13 year old boy. MAny scientist are questioning weither darwins theory of evolution is real. This new species is called Australopithecus sediba. There was also a fossil of a women in her late 20s or early 30s. I think this is very interesting how they found a new species.
This story caught my attention. Teasing and bullying is something faced by millions of kids, it's rare cases like the story above where bullying goes too far and costs a girl to take her own life. "Prince" hung herself in January after much torment from three other teenage girls. Those three teenage girls are now pleading not guilty to the charges in the case, which are civil violations becasue Prince took her own life. The bullies are said to have verbally abuse and threaten Prince.
This video news feed is about the record breaking auction sales at Sothebys annual auction in Hong Kong. An 18 century imperial pearl necklace accented with precious stone which most likely belonged to empire Yong Jung. It auctioned off at $8.7 million that is the highest ever. that is not all that broke a record a white inscribed jade seal sold for $12.29 million that's more than double the one from 2005 which was $5.9 million. I really enjoyed this because it evolved jewelry.
I read an article about a family who sent a Russian boy they had adopted back to Russia. They claimed he was violent and threatening their lives. The last straw was when he set papers in his room on fire. The agency that coordinated the adoption basically said they were alerted by the problem and would look into their Moscow office. I think that 1. Its's terrible that they adopted a poor and abused boy, were nice to him, and then sent him back. 2. The agency cannot send people children that are violent and have problems without telling them. To me this is a situation that involved bad communication. communication nication.
Stephen Hawking's documentary on the Dicsovery Channel claimed that "intelligent alien life almost certainly exists and that the search for it is valuable." he also talks about the potential threats posed by contact with alien intelligence so we shouldn't send out messages into the cosmos. The SETI Institute makes little optical and radio searches for aliens. However, it's only able to detect technology more advanced than ours. Hawking doesn't want to communicate with aliens because their "magic" might be too much for us and harm us. I personally thing that this business is all quite silly. I think that even if we did contact aliens, we'd only have about a 0.00000000137% chance of being able to understand one another.
miners were drilling a hole when an explotion went off. 25 were killled but 4 are beleived to still be alive some where in the mine, i think i saw a tv show on this subject earlier, they are searching for the people but its very risky, theres a servival unit in a mine uunder ground which they beleive the people have reached to but theres only a sertine amount of oxygen. i never found ou tif they got out in time. i hope they are alright
