I agree about how the author said that congress procrastinates a lot. It does seem as though they need a deadline to get anything done. I think if something needs to get done, whether or not is has a quickly approaching deadline, the congress shouldn't wait. The thing about congress is that sometimes they wait way too long to do anything and so by the time they find an answer to something, it's too late. From this article, it seems that their are plenty of people trying to keep congress on task. Congress really needs to step it up if they ever want to improve anything.

Wow, congress, wow. I don't know how Congress could let this happen. The article says that 800,000 unemployed US workers lost their jobless-benefit checks. It said that this happened when Congress didn't reauthorize a program that extends jobless benefits, so I guess once it ran out, all these people lost their source of money while struggling to find a job. It also said that now the hunger which americans face will rise sharply, rising over the 50 million that went hungry last year. It's starting to remind me of the great depression; people losing jobs, not being able to find another, no one has any money, and people are hungry. In this day and age I thought this could have been prevented but apparently not.

  3. Over the next decade Obama’s debt administration is going to try to cut 4 trillion dollars off of the budget. The first thing they are cutting is 15% of the budget for congress which would save nearly 800 million dollars a year. Congress’s spending has been rising steadaly for the last 10 years. From 2000 to 2010 their spending has rose nearly 50%. This new budget plan also calls for a three year salary freeze for the 535 members of congress. I think that this cut in salary is a good way for the government to lead by example for the next decade which will require Americans to sacrifice a lot.

Leaks seem to stir up congress quite a bit, and ruffle some feathers. Keeping personal information on ambassadors hints at some "things". The currently available leaks, including this one, are just the tip of the iceberg, showing the government might not hold moral or ethical boundaries. If the government is afraid someone won't like what they are doing in secret, they shouldn't be doing it. I think citizens should put hard pressure on the government to stop holding informaion secret, to keep the government actually in check and balance. The government has balance between itself, but isn't it funny how it doesn't have balance with the common citizen?

north korea plans on bombing south korea. south korea plans on using airstrikes to retaliate, son! so this could turn into a pretty sick fight. im just hoping north korea doesnt do a lot of damage before south korea destroys em. N korea already killed 4 s. koreans. its still sad, but what can we do but sit and watch what happens? we're in our own war we're trying to get out of it as of now, so we couldnt offer much help anyway. and its not a battle worth fighting for cause i think south korea can take care of itself.

I read about Obama going to visit the soldiers in Afghanistan. I thought it was nice of him to go visit them because he's giving the troops support. I think the troops should thank Obama because he didnt have to visit them. He was supposed to be at home spending time with his children but instead he chose to go support the Afghanistan troops. Thats why Obama is a good president because he makes sure everything is going ok.

I think this is crul of them to do and i hope they are not starting a war with us. i hate seeing wars go on and on. the reason of this is unknown but it scares me and my family. this has to stop the wars, the conflicts between people that tears them into peaces and other bad stuff. i hate it.

I read an article on a plane crash in Utah and the miracle behind it. Its not very often a pilot will survive a plane crash going head first in the ground, its very rare in fact. The plane crashed in a nearby neighborhood in the area and injured many. It was amazing to hear that the crash knocked out power in 1,700 homes, when u think about that could be a whole town. But the article states the people in the homes that caught fire were reportedly not hurt. The airlines have been flying planes for a long time and need to improve airline flights and landings.

Today in 2010 we cherish the memories of our lost soldiers during 1941. During that time people were fighting in war because of the pearl harbor attack. It was indeed tragic. We should make this a holiday if you ask me. Rest in peace to the falling soldiers. :)

  11. My topic is on the dream act so far it has passed by the house of representives but it needs the senate to debate amends then veto it. It then conferences committee merges the two bills. House and senate vote on merged bill. Then goes to the president if signs vote, or ignores it. If voted congress may overturn with 2/3 votes. Hopefully it is passed which is a good overturn on my education so the I could have my ability to go to college like every American citizen. Although house approved the act the senate approval is uncertain.

  13. The price of oil is nearing 90$ a barrell, totaling a staggering 3$ a gallon for everyday consumers. With a recovering economy this is the last thing citizens need when they are struggaling with mortgage rates and living costs. Consumers basically have to pay for oil no matter the price because it is their main source of transportation from and to work everyday. With people spending money on this basic commatite they will not be able to give the economy as much spark from the spending they will not be able to afford. I think that the rising price of oil has been a pressing issue for many years and although it will not bring spending that helps the economy to a halt it will certinaly slow it down.

well, i've read this artivle and thought about things that we learn this day. Obama's doing his job as the head of the state. he lightened up the christmass tree, he gave a speech and make sure that people will be entertained by listening the music bands.
i also loved the way he said:"It's a message that says no matter who we are or where we are from, no matter the pain we endure or the wrongs we face, we are called to love one another as brothers and as sisters,"
it's moving and so true :)

I found it really scary and maybe unfair too. first of all they've arrested her on thanksgiving.second of all, she had a reason why she didn't return the books, becasue of the fire that appened some years ago. i think they should have been thinking of another solution..not punishing her with arresting her on thankgiving and all. that's so sad!

(I'm doing 2 curent events because i didn't do it for the last week.i din't have internet access)

    Hunter Edwards
Senate Republicans on Thursday stoped the legislation. Which would have lifted the military's 17-year-old stop on open gay troops. The measure was tucked into a broader defense policy bill and had passed the House last spring.
It failed in a 57-40 test vote. It fall three votes short of the 60 needed to go on. I think that it suck that this bill was not passed.

I read about the Virginia Tech shooter that occured in 2007. The Shooter went to the Virginia Tech campus and killed 30 people. I dont understand why he would go do something like that when people are trying to learn and get their education. They said his name was identified as Cho Seung-Hui. Virginia Tech school is trying to help improve the campus safety and a better way to protect its students and community. I think thats a good idea because he could appear again.
