ReplyDeleteThis article outlines the white house's recent attacks on insurance companies over rising premium rates for health care. I think that they are absolutely doing the right thing, pointing out the real problem behind health care today. By setting their sights on what needs to be changed, politicions are bringing themselves one step closer to a reasonable health care reform. It is ridiculous how much insurance premiums have risen over the last few years, and I think it's time that some competition or limitations were introduced to prevent struggling families from owing their entire lives to a company which should be protecting them. I applaud Joe Biden for speaking to the Insurance Commissioners and addressing topics which need straight forward addressing.

ReplyDeleteObama took his campaign for universal health care back on the road thursday. He went to the University of Maryland to tell students that he will pass the health care reform this year. I think it's good that Obama is telling people about the health care reform. I think people should be informed about this topic because it is a very big issue in our country today. People should feel reassured that this reform will pass, Obama is doing that by going out and talking to people about it.

ReplyDeleteMax Baucus, who is the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee suggested to raise money for the healthcare through tax payers. Although this may seem to help the healthcare reform at first, I think it is a bad idea because eventually the money needed will have to come from the people in the middle class. These people cannot afford such a signifficant payment. Instead of the positive outcome the Senate is hoping for, I think that it will have a negitive effect and injure the already fagile economy

ReplyDeleteOn Sunday, Obama made a speech pushing back against the argument from liberal democrats that the leading health care bill would place a new financial burden on the lower and middle class. He said that insurance would be made affordable through a competitive exchange and subsidies. He argued that it wasn't a bad deal for the middle class and not a big tax increase. I think that this is good because higher taxes wouldn't really help anyone with the way our economy is now. The problem though is that in this debate about health care no one can decide exactly what is affordable. Obama is urging Congress to move on though and finally reach a decision. He said, “What I’m trying to do is explain the facts, which are if we don’t do anything, a lot of Americans are going to be much worse off,” and I agree with this because when you leave a decision undecided then things just continue as they are and may decline depending on the situation. Also, Obama cleared his position on giving health care to illegal immigrants. He reaffirmed that health care coverage for illegal immigrants would not be in the plan, but that for their children who are born in the US and therefore are legal American citizens, there would be coverage. I agree with this because if you are an illegal immigrant then you don't get the rights that US citizens do, but it would be unjust to also deprive their children of those rights because they actually are citizens, something that a lot of people might not recognize right away.

ReplyDeleteHa, I remember it like it was yesterday. I was in seventh grade wathching a then virtually unknown movie about global warming. The movie had alot of Al gore in it to. I really believed in wahat he was saying. The enviromeny needs our help. Well on Sep. 23 Brithish Prime minister Gordan Brown called for the worlf to reach an agreement on climate change. He is urging his peers to do this. I find that honorable. The plan is set for 2012... the year I graduate........... full circle huh? shay izo

ReplyDeletethis is an article about president Obama insisting that requiring americans to get health insurance does not amount to a tax increase. he said that those who cannot afford health insurance should seek government help and those who can afford it but choose not to get it should face coverage insurance similar to those for auto insurance. i think he is basically saying that the government is not having anybody carry some other person's burdens for them anymore. insurance companies are overcharging for the medicare services and he insists that the change will mean senior citizens will get the same level of coverage at a lower cost to the government. of course, the critics are saying that he is increasing taxes to balance the health care reform but what more can i say, it is the job of a critic to criticize a person ideas no matter how relevant it may be.

ReplyDeleteThe US is the only major industrialized county which doesn't provide healthcare for all citizens. This is both a moral and financial issue. As healthcare costs rise and insurance companies seek more profits, poor Americans fall through the cracks of minimum healthcare. We all pay for the uninsured, whether we know it or not. Providing healthcare for everyone is the right thing to do. It would be a good investment.

ReplyDeletethis news report is about what President Obama said recently about Health Care. he said that everyone who can afford it should be required to get health care. those who can not afford it still need it, but have to get help from the government. doing this, is not meant as a tax increase. this will help the over all outcome of the society. it is just like how people are required to get car insurance before they go on the road. i agree with what he is saying about how everyone should have health insurance. in this day and age, most people dont have health insurance between the ages of 18 and 28. they feel like they dont need it but they are just as likely to get hurt than any one else. once they are injured the hospital bill is twice as much without insurance. everyone should have health insurance. it is better for them in the long run.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/08/18/frank.heath.care/index.html
ReplyDeleteMany people are having arguments about health care, but most aren't as bad as this one got. Rep. Barney Frank was at a town hall ,meeting to discuss health care, and could barely finish a sentence. The people interrupting
were against health care reform. Frank shouted back at them. One woman even compared Obama and his health care reform to Hitler and the Nazis. Frank lost it. He said that the woman was defacing the picture of Obama, and asked her what planet she came from. I think people should be more rational about health care debates. Everyone needs to hear what the other side has to say. People also need to get the facts straight. Some of the stuff going around about health care is made up rumors against reform and Obama.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/09/20/obama.health.care
ReplyDeleteThis article is about governmental health care not raising taxes. I disagree with what Obama says because the government wont be able to cut back enough to pay for health care for everyone. After that happens they will start taxing the people, which contradicts what President Obama says. I think the plan Obama proposed for Health Care is just like Englands current Health Care system in which people have to wait up to 5 years to get a surgery done. Here you can go the next week and get a major surgery done. I think we should stick with private Health Care.

ReplyDeleteRising costs due to the required purchase of health care are worrying some government officials. California Lt. Gov. John Garamendi says "We are about to force at least 30 million people into an insurance market where the sharks are circling - Without effective protections, they will be eaten alive." It is true that forcing people into buying health care is not the solution for a nationalized program. I agree with the statement that health care is a right, but I don't think the proposed plan is thinking about long term effects. It is predicted that premiums will soar in the near future. The insurance companies will have no incentive to lower prices if every American is a permanent customer. Democrats have avoided regulating premiums to not upset business leaders and Republicans who don't want hands in the private sector. Democrats' hands are already going to be dealing within the private sector, so why not regulate the premiums. States already monitor automobile and homeowners insurance costs. Again, a good point was brought up by Karen Ignagni, the president of America's Health Insurance Plans. She states "You can't restrain premiums unless you restrain medical costs". Which is an accurate statement. The cost for medical procedures have been rising at an unbelievably fast rate, but then again, so has the cost for medical schooling. There are definitely some issues that need to addressed before any type of health care plan gets approved. The health care debate is an extremely complicated subject. I just hope that government officials can come to an agreement on the best plan for Americans.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/09/24/hiv.vaccine/index.html
ReplyDeleteSo I found this article about a new combo vaccine tested in Thiland for HIV. This is a huge huge innovation in health care I belive. For one, no one thought it was possible to even create a vaccine to help or prevent HIV or AIDS before this. Secondly, seeing as how there are an overwhelming ammount of people all across the world with HIV this could be a huge step in health care. They say that they dont know yet if the vaccine will work in the U.S. because they feel citizens in Thiland have different immune systems than us. Even if that is true, the vaccine would still be a major breakthrough in health care reform and I hope thats how it turns out.
http://www.cnn.com/politics/09/24/chaffetz.joe.wilson.health.care/index.html
ReplyDeleteThis article is talking about the health care reform in the view of Rep. Jason Chaffetz. Democrats and Republicans are having problems agreeing with each other's ideas. I think that they should comprimise so that the reforms can finish. Then they can get on with solving other issues with the world and the U.S.

ReplyDeleteThis is the democratics health bill proposal. It talks about making health care cheaper. This will result in 40 million more americans receive health care. This sounds great to me. The only downside to this would be he companys that are making all of the money from health care. They are probably going to lose alot of money but it will help more people.

ReplyDeleteThis artical explanes the different amount of people that agree with Obama's actions and plan on health care. It says that 30% like it 23% don't like it, and 46% haven't decided yet. I feel that the republicans are the majority of the people that disagree with Obama and they are disagreeingjust because they are republican and Obama is democratic. I feel this little fued neeeds to stop and for both parties to start making desions that are really good for this country

ReplyDeleteHealth Reform you can count on
This article talks about how if the reform is passed there is three major things that will go with it. It will expand coverage, create a new insurance marketplace, and put a tighter leash on insurers. All these thing will hopefully lower the cost as a whole and make it more affordable. I personally believe that before we reform health care we must first get out of debt. If this plan is passed now we could be put into debt for the next couple decades. These item that have been added to the plan will make it more efficient and slightly less costly to the average american worker.
http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/health/2009-09-22-faces-uninsured_N.htm?csp=34
ReplyDeleteThis article pretty much talks about what are they planning on doing with the health insurance problem. every one gets health care then obama says it wont cover all of the uninsured and it wont cover illegal immigrants either. i read the peoples story and it was sad. i'm in favor of everyone who is a citizen of the united states to get health insurance. it's hard to worry everyday because you can't afford health care. what i found intersting is that it would cost 3 TRILLION dollars to cover the usa.....TRILLION that is CRAZY! that is so much money, so i can see why this is such a hard and important decision to make.....
http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/10/21/childhood.cancer.survivors.marriage/index.html
ReplyDeleteThis is about how reports shows that those diagnosed with cancer have a smaller chance of marrying than siblings and friends who aren't.\
Researchers used data from the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study, which encompasses thousands of childhood cancer survivors who are now adults and were treated at 26 institutions in the United States. This study focused on about 9,000 adult survivors of childhood cancer, and nearly 3,000 siblings of participants.
Survivors of childhood cancer were 21 percent more likely to be unmarried than siblings and 25 percent more likely to be unmarried than the U.S. Census population, the researchers found.
This is about tips to keep kids eating healthy food. It talks about how eating the right breakfast with protein without sugar. Even when kids eat cereal they get more sugar then protein which causes them to have a problem with learning. Things recommended are milk, whole wheat toast, peanut butter, yogurt. Also to avoid soda and other sugary drinks. It is said that sugary drinks can kill you faster then a cigarette with all the calories your taking in. Reassess snacking:fruits and nuts are best also to eat more fish.
