ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NevFL1rGeew (Thought bubble video of the same audio - watch for a fun animation of what John Green is saying.)
This video is John Green (he is an author, he has written books like Paper Towns: http://tinyurl.com/yenbc4v. He also has a running YouTube vlog project with his brother Hank. If he refers to Hank, that's who he's talking about. Watch their videos!) talking about the basics of the Health Care debate. And John Green being John Green, compares it to the worlds largest boar. (Walkin' Tall!) John says that there are two options: fix the Health Care or fix the insurance companies. To fix the Health Care, a public option has been proposed. (The people that want to put the boar on a diet.) The public option would be less expensive and more people would be covered. To fix the insurance companies, a Non-Profit insurance company has been proposed. (The people that want to keep feeding the boar.) The non-profit option would theoretically mean that, since they were non-profit, the company would care more about the patients than making money like the private insurance companies we have now. The problem with that is many people would still not be covered. John also talks about how everyone agrees on two things: We (The U.S.) pay too much money on Health Care and the Health Care system is "radically unfair." I think that the Public Option sounds like a much better idea because it is inexpensive and would help more people.

ReplyDeleteI read an article about President Obama’s speech about healthcare. The top Republicans said they were still opposed to Obama’s plan after his speech. They also said his speech maligned opponents and gave false basic information. The president reiterated his facts and plan to Congress Thursday, and the Democrats and Republicans were equally divided. I think that Obama’s points were very good. Such as stopping out-of-pocket costs and create a health insurance exchange so individuals and small businesses an pool resources to help bargain for lower coverage costs. I feel like this idea is fine and should help people. Another point of his was for the federal government to provide greater financial assistance to those who can't afford insurance. This seems reasonable and helpful to people who need financial assistance. It is the government’s job to help its citizens. I don’t understand why the Republicans don’t agree, they just don’t want to accept the fact that not everyone in America can afford insurance.

ReplyDeleteOn September 9th, Obama had a speech to talk about health care. I actually watched this speech on tv and found it very interesting. However the firt person I would like to talk about is Joe Wilson.( The person you yelled out, " you lie"!) I found that highly disrespectful not only to the presedent but also to his followers. I hope that he apologized to him and makes sure that he does not do it again. I just cannot figure out how some one can be so disrespectful to the presedent of the United States. On the other hand I really enjoyed Obamas speech and thought that he made some really good points. One being that the plan will not add a dime to our deficit and will be payed for up front. I think that, that is a great aspect of his plan and that many people will find that just doing that makes a big difference on peoples opinions. Over all I think that Obama's plan is great and will work.

ReplyDeleteThe article I chose to read this week was about President Obama's plan for health care reform. In his plan, he says that his plan will provide "more security and stability to those who have insurance," extend it to those who don't and slow the rate of growth in health care costs. He said all Americans would be required to have health care, which is projected to cost $900 billion in the next 10 years. Businesses would also be required to offer health care or help to pay for it. However, the Democrats and Republicans are really divided on this issue, and this is the main reason why many people don't like Obama and don't want him as president. Most Republicans are opposing the public option, which means everyone has healthcare, while most Democrats support it. Obama is walking a VERY fine line trying to please both parties, and I can't imagine how hard it is.

ReplyDeleteThis article is about the cuts that could be made in Medicare Advantage, a service that allows senior citizens to buy private insurance with public money. If Obama's health reform is seen through, up $120 million could be taken out of this program. While I think it seems strange that senior citizens are given insurance paid for by the american public, I don't think it is so wrong that it should be cut so drastically. I know that in order to have health care reform, in accordance with Obama's plan at least, some services are going to have to be cut drastically. But considering the rewards that could come of nationalized healthcare, we have to accept that some things will be sacrificed, albeit some should not be cut so dramamtically as others.

ReplyDeleteHealth care is supposed to protect people of the Undited States that aren't able to afford it themselves. Obama is trying to find a policy that will qualify to fit everybodys needs. Many Americans think that instead of making a health care plan he is trying to make a tax hike. Also democrats are wondering with this new plan if they will have to pay more for their coverage. Tghis plan is aimed to help the middle and low class americans. If you fall in this range how much will you have to pay for health care? Obama says if you fall inbetween 300 and 400 percent or 66,150 to 88,200 and a family of four you eill have to pay 11 to 13 percent of your income.

ReplyDeleteThis article was about Barack Obama's new health care plan. I like his Idea, he says: “Everybody’s going to have to give some in order to get something done.” This suggests that America is a team, and that we can work together. I'd like to believe that if we all work together we can accomplish great things. However, there's always that one person in the group that just doesn't want to participate. I think that this can all work if Obama can evenly space out everyone's health care costs so that everyone has it and no one's paying too much. It's a bit of a difficult task to say the least; it's nearly impossible to keep everyone happy. Therefore, I hope that his plan works out.

at the end of this mans video he said that he beleives that health care is a privlage and not a right. that only the people that can afford it can have it. i completely dissagree. what if an under privlage family got in a car wreck because a drunk driver hit them. and what if that family couldnt pay the medical bills they needed. they could have a mother who needs life support, and they cant pay it. a family could lose its mother because of what this man beleives in. yes, haveing free healthcare would raise our taxes and what not but in the end we are being good citizens and helping other people.

Obama Plan in Four Minutes
I think that overall health care is good so that no one would have to go without having it. President Obama would make it illegal for insurance companies to drop you if you get sick, and no one would be denied. I think that's good for the people that don't want to switch their insurance plans they can keep what they have and don't have to worry about it. Once this bill is signed insurance plans wont be able to put a limit on how much health care you can get in a year. Also people won't have to pay out of pocket for their medical expenses the insurance companies would handle it. Overall I think overall health care is for the better, and many people would benefit from it.

ReplyDeleteThis article explors Obama's health care reform. Obama calls for everyone to have health care which is estimated to cost $900 billion dollars over the next ten years. Buisnesses would be required to provide healthcare. He is also pushing for grater financial help for those who can not afford insurence. Many Republican leaders are opposed to this plan, stating, "Obama has rejected that claim as a false allegation intended to scare people." Obama is trying hard to please both parties,Democrats and Republicans, although both seem divided on the matter.

ReplyDeleteThis video is about Obama's health reform. In this video he talks about health insurance. He talks about how is plan will have no more dropped coverage when you get sick, no more denial of coverage for pre-exsiting conditions, and if you like health insurance you can keep it. Obama would make it so u don't get denied and he would make it illegal for health companies to drop you if you get ill. I think its good that once this plan is signed that people will get unlimited amount of health care a year. Obama says that it was a good idea when senator John Macain said it in the campaign and that hes saying it now that we should all emprase it. Overall what Obama is trying to do will be better for our countries health care system.

ReplyDeleteIt says in the article that Obama's speech to the Senate and House of Representatives was one of the president's most important speeches he will ever give. The thing he heard first? "You Lie." Isn't that encouraging? During one of his broadcasted speeches to the Senate, Obama was trying to convince the Senate and House of Representatives that the healthcare plan was a good one. Usually those speeches end with a lot of cheers, some quiet moments of a small boo here or there. Joe Wilson, a Republican congressman from SC, said the "You Lie" after Obama's televised speech. He later apologized but still it's kind of rude to say that after an extremely important speech that millions of people are watching. Obama was just trying to prove his point. It makes me mad the a congressman would say that about the president of our country. It's just disrespectful to him and to the people who liked what he said about healthcare.

ReplyDeleteNany Pelosi said today that basically the democrats are almost ready to present their health care bill to the chamber. Thing is how soon is soon in politics. Could it be next week? Nancy never specified.
The new bill includes health care paid for by the government. Republicans ananamously disagree with the bill. I feel universal health care is an absolutely amazing idea. Sure it'll raise our taxes, but we would hopefully be paying for private health care anyway.

ReplyDeleteThis article explains some of the problems people are seeing with Obama's Health Care plan and why it's not passing through congress as easily as he had hoped. One of the Republican Senators said that they should not pass the bill without Bipartisan support, but that is almost surely not going to happen without many amendments to the bill, and lessening it's effectiveness. All we really need is all the Democratic senators to agree on the bill and put the vote at 60/40, just enough to slap the Filibuster in the face and get the bill through.
On the subject of paying for it, I think that, in a complete opposite to Bush's Tax reforms, the upper class should pay more taxes, and the people in the Lower classes should not have to pay as much. I think, though, that if everyone who had health care was willing to pitch in an extra $100 each time they paid for their health care, we could quickly build up more money to help under- or uninsured peoples.
But honestly, I don't think you should have to pay for health care at all.
