North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue claims that North Carolina is on its way to economic recovery this week. Businesses like Spirit Aerosystems, which manufactures airplanes for Boeing, are moving into North Carolina, and bringing with them thousands of job openings. This is great news for our state, which has been suffering job losses due to the current economy. The fact that we have businesses coming in and supplying us with new jobs and an economic boost is good, no matter how small they are. Even though our state hasn't suffered as much as some others, we still need help from entrepreneurs and business owners to boost our economy and get it back on track.
"I think with Spirit and the other smaller companies coming, we are really on our road to success," says Perdue.

Barack Obama? Really? All politics aside, what has Barack done? Teddy carried a big stick and negoated the Portsmouth Peace Treaty ending the Russo-Japanese war. Wilson ended the "Great War". ever hear of the 14 points? Carter has tried for 30 years to bring peace to the Middle East. Obama has'nt done anything, except present himself.

Liberty Christian Academy, a private school in Fayetteville, are going to let its students have two days of school off while they clean and disinfect the entire school. Around 250 of 328 students that attend that school were out sick today. The school is going to teach the students proper hand washing, proper coughing techniques, and proper sneezing etiquette. I think this is a good idea since about 75% of the school was out sick. It's also a good idea to teach them how to not spread germs. I don't understand why they couldn't have cleaned on the weekend though. There is only one more day left in the week and that way the school schedule wouldn't be messed up. There would just be a bunch of kids with make up to do.

This is ridiculous. A 18-pound infant in Colorado, only 4 months old, was turned down by a local health care company for being in the 99th percentile (for height and weight) of toddlers his age. The mother has no control over how he grows, since all he's had is her breast milk, and his pediatrician never commented on his size. TO finally get the health care, the toddler's father, who was a local news anchor, did a story about it and threatened to take his family's care elsewhere.

This shouldn't be necessary to procure care for a 4-month old baby. He's perfectly healthy and happy, even in his proportional "obesity", as the Health Care company called it.

The article I read was about how the liberals in Chapel Hill, who usually get a large amount of support, are being challenged by a new group called the "pro-business" group. This group wants more action to come to Chapel Hill, such as updating the building permit process and dealing with pressing issues like panhandlers and lack of parking. Their goals look very impressive next to the liberal's, which consist of things like banning plastic bags from grocery stores. The liberals also think the only way of letting Chapel Hill grow but keeping the small-town feel is by going up.

In my opinion, I don't agree with the liberals on that. I don't like the new buildings being put up in Chapel Hill and Carrboro - I think they take away from that small-town feel.

  6. I read an artical concerning helth care to vererans at camp lejeune. Camp lejeune is a army base on the shore of North Carolina where a bill is under way. This bill is giving veterans haelth care that may have been exposed to contaminated water. I think that all verterans or any person going into the army should get free health care no matter what. Also i think that the bases need to be cleaner than they are.

  7. Carrboro and the NC State government are currently in a disagreement about the expansion of Smith Level Road.
The State wants to expand it to four lanes.
The city wants to make the road smoother and add a sidewalk and bike lanes.
I personally think the town is in the right. The road leads to Carrboro High School and kids should have the option to walk or bike to school.

  8. http://www.newsobserver.com/politics/local/story/142042.html: Candidate gets public 'rescue' cash

The article is about candidates who are running for mayor using money. They talk about how NC is now allowing candidates for mayor used some of the public funding for their use towards getting voted for. They have to fundraise a cetrain amount in order to get the money, but once they get there, they get an additional $4,000 to help them advertise for the election. The candidates can make a decision to use the money or not. I think it's a good thing that NC is letting the candidates use public money, but couldn't the money go to a better use? Like building homes, making jobs, or paying for the state's debt? People who run for mayor, school board, governor, and others should be able to fundraise all the money they need to run for their certain position. If they can't make enough money, they should be able to cut down on some things or use a little of their own money instead of the state's money. The money that we, as a community, need to help us make it through the recession (or the recession that was once here).

I read an article from The News and Observer about the Dell company moving their plant from Winston Salem to Mexico. They said that the wanted to expand globally. The closing of the plant will leave thousands of North Carolinians without jobs. I personally think the real reason the plant is closing is because in Mexico they can pay workers even less. It is cheaper for the plant to be in Mexico. At a time when the economy is down, is not a good time to let go a 1000 workers. All there workers will now have to find new jobs.Dell promises to help all employess find a new job, which is nice of them. That way people have a better chance. Still now is not the best time. By moving the plant to Mexico they are no longer helping the American economy but Mexico's.

The NC government said that federal stimulus money has been sent directly to state agencies and has saved or created at least more than 24,000 jobs so far. I think that is good but people are still being laid off, but I guess they are taking it one step at a time.
Large amounts of money have been used so far to fill revenue gaps in the state budget. Also to contract for many highway projects and provide needed funds to local school districts, which is greatly needed. The state recovery office said more than 19,000 of the jobs were saved or created, thanks to more than $1 billion set aside in the budget for the public schools and Medicaid.

I read an article about a new smoking law that will take place starting January 2nd,2010. The new law states that smoking will be prohibited in most resturants and public places. I think that this is a very good idea. Even though this law should have been made 10 years ago it is still a step into the right direction. It will improve the health of the smokers, and also that of the people around the smokers. Not only will it do that but it will also make the places where the law is enforced a better enviroment for everyone.

Starting January 2nd, 2010, smoking is going to be illegal in most public places. Smokers surly aren't happy about this, but it's only fair. They'll still be able smoke in the privacy of their own home without risking the health of other, non-smoking citizens merely waiting at a bus stop or sitting on a park bench.
My mother works as a chaplin at a women's prison in Raleigh. Apperently they've just gone smoke-free. The inmates aren't terribly happy about it to say the least. While smoking is plenty bad for you, is it really fair to force these women to quite cold turkey? They don't have the benefit of being able to go home and have the occasional cigarette slowly cutting down their intake until they're quit. It's a good idea, but it's hard to say whether or not this law's too strict.

This article is about a registered sex offender who was arrested for attending church in Pitt. NC. The reason for his arrest was due to a recently mad law that prohibits any registered sex offender from coming within 300 feet of any establishment meant for the care of children. Due to this arrest there has been lots of questioning about this law. The mans lawyers argued that is to vague and does not exclude churches. In my opinion i believe that the law would be better off to be changed so that these sex offenders can attend church.
